Fall risk assessment

Fall risk assessment

Falling is a very real concern for older adults. Nearly half of all people over age 65 fall every year. Many are seriously injured.

When people worry about falling, they often reduce their activity level. This reduction can decrease confidence to the point where some people are afraid to walk around.

To help older adults remain active, strong and healthy, Providence Rehabilitation Services offers Fall Risk Assessment. Therapists measure a person’s risk of falling, using these tools:

  • Physical history and risk factors
  • Vision screening
  • Orthostatic blood pressure reading
  • Balance assessments
  • Strength and mobility testing

After the assessment, therapists may suggest ways to improve mobility and safety so that older adults can increase their confidence and decrease their risk of falling.

After illness, injury or disability, people in our community turn to Providence Rehabilitation Services for help in regaining strength and independence. Last year, Providence Rehabilitation served more than 86,000 adults and children.
