Healthy Aging: Tips for staying well and happy in later years

The term "aging" often is associated with an assumed decline in physical and mental health, as well as in overall quality of life. Many of us cross our fingers and hope we’ll be among the lucky few who maintain strength, mental acuity and independence later in life – not realizing that the course of our later years is largely up to us.

Inside ElderPlace

April 2006
When 67-year old Geraldine (Jerrie) moved to Providence ElderPlace at Glendoveer in April of 2006, she immediately became an integral part of the community. Within days, it seemed, Jerrie knew most of the other residents’ names, quite a feat considering the number of residents at Glendoveer hovers around 90.

Providence ElderPlace welcomes two new locations in 2010

Providence ElderPlace in Irvington Village, 420 NE Mason St., Portland, became our sixth site after receiving approval to operate as an official PACE site on April 1, 2010.

RAFT program

October 2007
Providence ElderPlace in Gresham’s first group of R.A.F.T. participants were awarded graduation certificates by Jerry Hunter, administrator of Providence Home and Community Services, in October 2007. R.A.F.T., the unique name selected by ElderPlace staff, is an adaptive computer program created by It’s Never 2 Late. The ElderPlace Gresham health and social center is a pilot test site for the program, which is designed to give ElderPlace participants the opportunity to experience computer technology.
